Some of my responsibilities as a designer will entail:

Being environmentally conscious, it is important for me to be aware of the consequences that my designs might have on the natural environment. It is important to know where the materials I use come from. I should try and upcycle materials where possible.

It is important when designing I try to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the product.

I have a responsibility to design items that benefit people’s lives, or at least cause no harm to society. I do not want to be a weapon designer.

I have responsibility to design fully functioning products, designed to be sustainable and long lasting.

I have a responsibility to understand human’s needs, and design to account for these needs.

I have responsibility to design things that can improve people’s moods. I want to create something that can bring out a positive outlook on life. To design something that can change someone’s perception on the world.

My responsibilities as a designer might alter due to where I work and what I work as. Obviously if I am a UX designer, Graphic Designer, Product designer, Fashion Designer, or whichever designer I become, my responsibilities might change here and there.

The general responsibilities I outlined above, should be attained wherever I am working and whatever I’m working as.

Products I wish I designed, I decided to pick various products I wish I deigned rather than narrow it down to one.

1. The Air Max 90, one of the most iconic runners to ever be produced. They were designed by the one and only Tinker Hatfield. They went unseen for almost 12 years and were released again in 2002 to become hugely popular. These have been a childhood cherished runner of mine, and I still own a pair of these bad boys. 2. The Air max 97/1 Sean Weatherspoon runners. A combined runner of the Air Max 90s and Air Max ones. Made form 100% vegan materials. These were a community-based design from Sean Weatherspoon and some of us his closest friends. They were inspired by Sean’s love for 1980’s vintage hats. These runners have a unique colorful corduroy consisting of a light blue fury and a lemon wash. the colors are arguably the best thing about this runner. The retail value was $160 and can now be resold at up to $1500. They were the winners of the Nike “Vote Forward” contest and have been one of the most sought-after runners ever since.(Nike Air Max 1/97 Sean Wotherspoon Release Info - JustFreshKicks, 2020)

3. Richard Clarkson’s Speaker cloud. A beautiful performance sculpture which looks exactly like a miniature thunder cloud. It is an interactive speaker with LED lights, it hangs from the ceiling as it rocks out music. I love led lights and loudspeakers and making my room look cool. This is on my checklist of items I MUST have. It can play thundercloud music and act has a calming presence to help you sleep. This is not the craziest futuristic design, it is simple but can bring a room to life creating a spectacular new atmosphere, therefore an amazing design. (Cloud, 2020)

4. SelfRelfector. This is an internet connected mirror that can calculate your age, play music from when you were a teenager and print out an image of you in the mirror on a TapWriter. Designed by Jayne Wallace, Mike Shorter, and Pete Thomas. We have always investigated mirrors. Often, we find ourselves having conversations with ourselves in mirror. Sometimes to motivate ourselves, sometimes to re-assure ourselves, sometimes to give out to ourselves. The mirror allows us to have face to face time with ourselves. This gang of designers explore that a simple reflection can motivate us to think about who we are and what we think of ourselves. This design really goes about creating an experience for the user. It could possibly change how the user thinks about themselves. (SelfReflector - Jayne Wallace's Portfolio, 2020)

There are so many packagings I wish I designed as well, such as the famous Revolut packaging. A simple clever, creative and extremely fun way to get your card. These are only a few of the products I wish I designed but I’ll save the rest for another day.
